Welcome from our President
New Zealand Muay Thai Federation

Kia ora Muay Thai whānau,

It is with immense pride and gratitude that I welcome you on behalf of the New Zealand Muay Thai Federation (NZMF). Since our establishment in 2004, we have worked tirelessly to grow and elevate the sport of Muay Thai across Aotearoa New Zealand. Today, we stand as the official governing and sanctioning body for Muay Thai in New Zealand, recognised by both the World Muaythai Council (WMC) and the International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA).

2023 marked a historic milestone for our community. With great honour, NZMF was accepted as an Associate Member of the New Zealand Olympic Committee. This recognition is not only a testament to our hard work and dedication, but it also opens an official pathway for New Zealand athletes to proudly represent our country on the world’s most prestigious sporting stage—the Olympic Games.

Through the NZMF, athletes can pursue competitive opportunities at all levels, both nationally and internationally, including the IFMA World Championships, World Games, World Combat Games, and many more. Our New Zealand Blackgloves Team continues to showcase the incredible talent, discipline, and heart that defines Muay Thai in this country.

None of this would be possible without the support of our coaches, athletes, officials, volunteers, and wider Muay Thai community. As we look ahead, our focus remains clear: to unite, empower, and uplift the Muay Thai community in New Zealand. Together, we can continue to build a future where our athletes thrive, our sport flourishes, and our shared passion reaches every corner of the nation.

There is no better time than now for us all to come together —stronger, prouder, and more connected than ever.

Ngā mihi nui,

Scotty Thomson
